People's Choice Category Invites Amateur Participation
Farmington, PA (May 3, 2012) – Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is once again hosting the Five Alarm Mountain Madness Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, June 9th. 2012 will mark the third year for the festival which raises monies for the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department. Although the cook-off is designated as regional competition reserved for members of the International Chili Society, amateur cooks are also invited to participate in the People’s Choice Community Cook-Off.
“If you are always asked to make your chili for tailgate parties or family gatherings, you might be the perfect candidate for this Community Cook-Off,” explains Ashli Mazer, event organizer. “In lieu of an entry fee, People’s Choice cooks are asked to bring three gallons of chili to share for both tasting and public judging,” said Mazer. People’s Choice chili is very important to the event’s charitable cause as it will be offered as part of the tastings. One hundred percent of proceeds raised through the sale of tasting kits will be donated to the fire department. The only recipe requirement is that the People’s Choice chili must be made with beans or a filler such as pasta to distinguish it from the ICS chili.
The People’s Choice Community Cook-Off winner will receive a plaque and a $200 Nemacolin Woodlands gift card. This year’s festival also includes a Restaurant Division Cook-Off category inviting local eateries to compete for prizes and of course, bragging rights. In addition to the cook-offs, the Five Alarm Mountain Madness Festival features radio broadcasts, a craft fair, brewfest, family adventure activities, live entertainment and appearances by celebrity judges including Brett Keisel and Arron Asham. Admission to the event is complimentary and chili tasting kits are priced at $5.00.
