Spring Fashion Show Brings "New York State Of Mind" To Uniontown

March 17 event to showcase city’s growing downtown district

Farmington, PA (February 16, 2007) — Uniontown’s growing downtown business district is the focus of the 2nd annual Spring Fashion Show scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in the city’s downtown district. With the theme “New York State of Mind,” the show will feature couture and “after six” wear for men and women from the Nemacolin Collection stores, The Boutique Shoppe, Les Lunettes, Cantalamessa, and Joyce’s Jewelry, all located in downtown Uniontown. Also featured will be the Heritage Court Shoppes at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and children’s clothing from Bella Baby, also in downtown Uniontown. Set props are provided by Classic Furniture of Uniontown.

More than 40 amateur models from the Fayette County area will take to the runway wearing the latest fashion trends for the coming season. Special entertainment during the evening includes performances by Harold Betters (piano and vocals, Connellsville), Jace Vëk (piano, Uniontown), the Arthur Murray Dance Studio (Latin ballroom, Monroeville), and Farren Rice (Connellsville) with her hip-hop dancers (ages 4 to 18).

“We’ve created this show to celebrate the growth that is happening in Uniontown, both in business, culture and people,” says Thaddeus Golonka, a long-time Fayette County resident who is serving as executive producer and director for the show. Golonka is the master stylist at The Salon at the Woodlands Spa, part of Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pa. “The theme is New York because it is the landmark for fashion, and the state of mind that exists there – the diversity of people and fashion and life. We want to bring attention to the growing fashion presence in Uniontown.”

Admission to the “New York State of Mind” Spring Fashion Show is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Special limited packages for the show and the After Party at 30 East Main are available for $30. To purchase tickets, call the State Theatre Center for the Arts at 724-437-1360 or stop by the theatre box office located at 27 East Main Street in Uniontown.

Proceeds from the fashion show will benefit P. A. K. (Parents for Autistic Kids), a Fayette-county based autism support group. Autism is a mental disorder characterized by behavioral challenges that may include a lack of social and communications skills, such as failure to respond to one's own name, intense tantrums and general detachment. In the last decade, the diagnosis of autism has increased 10-fold. One in 150 children born in the U.S. and four boys for every girl is now believed to be affected by autism. Recent news stories have reported there are approximately 4,000 people in the Pittsburgh area with autism. P.A.K. serves to bring parents of children with autism together in a support setting to share education and resources.
