New Sundial Lodge Will Be Center Of Activity
Farmington, PA (January 16, 2013) – Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is highlighting the new Sundial Lodge as part of their annual winter festival. The Sundial opened to the public last month and will play host to this special event. In addition to celebrating the season, the resort is marking the end of a year filled with hard work and dedication by both their business partners and associates in the rebuilding of the Sundial Lodge.
“A mere four hours after last year’s WinterFest event concluded, the original Sundial Ski Lodge was destroyed by fire,” explains Chris Plummer, General Manager of the luxury resort southeast of Pittsburgh. “This year’s festivities will be particularly significant as we introduce our WinterFest guests to the recently completed Sundial Lodge and display the new amenities housed in the facility. The new Sundial and its casual restaurant, Apex, have proven to be very popular with visitors and we have already increased the seating capacity and moved in additional lockers to keep up with the overwhelming demand.”
WinterFest kicks off with WDVE, the X and ESPN 970 radio personalities broadcasting live from the Sundial Lodge on Friday, Feb. 8. That evening, the legendary Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers will entertain guests performing their classic hits along with selections from their latest CD. Saturday’s line up begins at 10:00 a.m. with Randy Baumann from the WDVE Morning Show in the house to meet and greet guests at the Sundial Lodge. The day’s events continue with our popular children’s activities, ice carving demonstrations and the chilling Polar Bear Plunge where participants don their best bathing apparel or wacky costume and take a quick dip in the pond to receive a free lift ticket and rental equipment for the day. The Polar Bear Golf Classic returns on the Links Course and the exciting Out Cold Party has racers skiing down the mountain holding steins of beer competing to return to the top with the precious liquid still intact. One day lift tickets will be awarded for the overall fastest skier and the competitor who returns with the most beer, while the fastest skier with the greatest amount of beer in their stein will win a Mystic Mountain Season Pass and trophy.
An expansive bar made of fresh snow and ice will be constructed adjacent to the Sundial Lodge and feature adult libations as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Children’s activities such as snow painting and snowman building will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 and the day will conclude as the country sounds of the Girlz in Black Hats warm up the winter weekend by providing live music for the Snowmelt Party.
