Weekend features 1st Annual PA State Championship Dog Sled Drag Race

Farmington, PA (January 12, 2009) –  With the new year, Nemacolin Woodlands is adding two new events to their popular Winterfest Weekend at Mystic Mountain. During the Jan. 30 – Feb. 1, 2009 festival, the resort will be hosting Pennsylvania’s first annual championship dog sled drag race. Replacing the typical ski weekend, Nemacolin is showcasing winter golf and an extreme winter adventure competition in addition to the dog sled events. This year’s Winterfest will also feature the largest Super Bowl party in resort history at their newest venue, the WildSide.

“Over the years we have changed our approach to WinterFest,” says Jon Pitcavage, director of activities at the luxury resort southeast of Pittsburgh. “Incorporating a wide variety of winter recreation options has grown the weekend beyond our expectations and the dog sled events have become increasingly popular.” The dog sled races will feature Nemacolin’s own team of dogs as well as teams from around the region.

“We have 20 dog sled teams from across the northeast coming in to compete,” says Pitcavage. “Our goal for WinterFest at Nemacolin is in line with the resort philosophy – to offer the traditional and deliver the unexpected.”

On Saturday, January 31st, Nemacolin will once again host the Two Below Duo Race and has partnered with Grass Roots Racing of Pittsburgh, which organizes extreme adventure races. The Two Below Duo is a three-stage outdoor adventure competition for teams of two. This year’s new race format is designed to be a “mid”-distance adventure race and will take approximately 8 hours to complete. Navigation is a must in this race and racers will be expectedto have a compass and to be familiar with its use. Details on each stage are not released until one hour prior to each event to ensure teams have equal time to plan their strategy for each race. Cost to compete is $60 per team with advanced reservations or $30 per person. Teams can register online at www.rootsrace.comor at the Resort the day of the event.

Nemacolin’s WinterFest Weekend begins on Friday, Jan. 30 and runs through Sunday, Feb. 1. Radio partner FROGGY FM will broadcast live from the resort’s Mystic Mountain on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fans can come out and meet their favorite on-air personality and register to win prizes from Froggy and Nemacolin. FROGGY Radio personalities will be judging the Chili Cook-off, and space is still available.
