What is Ayurveda? | Customized Program | Meet Kerry | Availability & Pricing
The Ayurveda Sanctuary is the perfect setting for guests to rest, relax, renew, revive and rejuvenate. At the heart of the Sanctuary, profound treatment programs help restore life balance and reawaken the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
Treatments are customized based on your metabolic constitution, which is determined by the experienced practitioners at the sanctuary. Guests learn to understand how individual factors in their make-up affect moods, cravings and behavior, and what simple shifts in diet, exercise, and routines can be used to enhance their progress toward increased strength, energy and vitality. Invigorating therapies, customized treatments, delicious, healthy meals and tranquil yoga sessions are just some of the unique aspects of the program.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a system of medicine that traces its roots back to ancient India, and is the fastest growing system of holistic medicine in the United States. The core underlying concept to Ayurveda is balance. With the fast-paced lifestyles of today, our unbalanced nature manifests itself in a myriad of symptoms including fatigue, indigestion, headaches, weight gain, aching joints and countless others.
The key to great health is not to just treat symptoms, but to identify the underlying cause of each problem and create a personalized treatment plan to target each. When your body is back in balance, painful symptoms melt away.

Customized Program
Guests at the sanctuaray will go through a metabolic assessment before the program begins that determines their unique constitution. The experienced practitioners at the Sanctuary, led by Kerry Harling, certified Ayurveda practitioner, use this information to create a personalized experience for each guest. From organic foods and yoga sesstions to invigorating oil therapies and unique herbal remedies, each guest's plan will never be the same.
How the Program Works
The Ayurveda Sanctuary runs for one full week, with options ranging from daylong sessions to 3 and 5 day programs as well. View the Schedule below for an example program looks like for each Dosha - what Ayurveda calls Pitta, Kapha and Vata - a guest's individual body compositions.
Each visit to the Ayurveda Sanctuary includes one-on-one time with an Ayurveda Practitioner and a customized health plan for when you leave; however, each day provides new and amazing experiences, so the longer your stay, the better your results will be. We strongly encourage our guests to stay for an entire week for maximum results.
Pre-Arrival Consultations
The program begins with a pre-arrival metabolic evaluation and a personal phone consultation from an Ayurveda Practitioner to design each individualized program. The practitioner will employ a holistic and highly personal approach to each diagnosis. Body-type analysis, tongue reading, pulse diagnosis, skin analysis, digestive strength, overall well-being and listening to symptoms and concerns help to find and address imbalances in the body.
Once determined, a personalized plan will contain everything from correct diet changes to exercise suggestions to practice daily. These individually prescribed treatments are designed to bring balance back into life. A typical day at the Sanctuary may include herbal oil massages, herbalized steam treatments and aromatherapy and activities will vary daily.
This schedule is based as an example that is subject change in order to cater to individual needs.

Meet Kerry
Your Guide and Ayurvedic Practitioner
Kerry began her path to healing by studying neuroscience. In graduate school and during her public health masters courses, she focused her studies on the effects of environmental toxins on human health. For Kerry, health seemed to revolve around a central question: How do we encourage certain health behavior in spite of our fast-paced culture, and how do we maintain balance in different settings around the world?
After studying Ayurveda and yoga at Kripalu School of Ayurveda and the world renowned Ayurvedic Institute, Kerry now practices Ayurveda throughout the Northeast, bringing health and vitality to her clients. As the founder and CEO of The Holistic Highway, she is a guide for her clients, teaches yoga, leads workshops and seminars in health and wellness topics and practices at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Integrative Medicine. She is a registered practitioner with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) and with Yoga Alliance.
